The forces acting on the piston ring include gas pressure, the elastic force of the ring itself, the inertia force of the reciprocating motion of the ring, the friction force between the ring and the cylinder and the ring groove, etc., as shown in the figure. Due to the action of these forces, the ring will produce axial motion, radial motion, rotary motion and other basic movements. In addition, because of its movement characteristics, the piston ring is accompanied by irregular movement, which inevitably causes suspension and axial vibration, radial irregular movement and vibration, twisting movement and so on. These irregular movements often prevent the piston rings from functioning. When designing piston rings, we should give full play to the favorable movement and control the unfavorable side
It has enough strength, rigidity, small mass and light weight to ensure the minimum inertia force.


2. Good thermal conductivity, high temperature resistance, high pressure, corrosion resistance, sufficient heat dissipation capacity, small heating area.

3. There should be a small friction coefficient between the piston and the piston wall.

4. When the temperature changes, the size and shape change should be small, and the minimum clearance should be maintained between the cylinder wall and the cylinder wall.

The piston is a reciprocating part in the cylinder block of an automobile engine. The basic structure of piston can be divided into top, head and skirt. The top of the piston is the main part of the combustion chamber, its shape is related to the combustion chamber. Flat top piston is widely used in gasoline engine, which has the advantage of small heat absorption area. There are many kinds of pits on the top of the diesel engine piston. The specific shape, position and size of the pits must meet the requirements of the mixture formation and combustion of the diesel engine.



Pay attention to the installation of piston rings

1) the piston ring shall be installed into the cylinder sleeve with a certain opening clearance at the interface.

2) the piston ring should be installed on the piston. In the ring groove, there should be a certain edge clearance along the height direction.

3) the chrome ring shall be installed in the first pass, and the opening shall not face the eddy current pit on the top of the piston.

4) the openings of each piston ring shall be staggered for 120 ºC and shall not face the piston pin hole.

5) the conical section piston ring shall be installed with the conical surface upward.

6) during the installation of general torsion ring, the chamfer or groove shall be upward; during the installation of counter torsion ring with cone surface, the cone surface shall still be upward.

7) when installing the combined ring, first install the axial lining ring, then install the flat ring and wave ring. A flat ring shall be installed at the top and bottom of the wave ring, and the openings of each ring shall be staggered with each other.
